HIDDEN TREASURES
Founded in the 12th century and a contemporary of Notre Dame de Paris, the Longues Abbey is an exceptional testimony to Norman religious life in the Middle Ages. The Choir was restored in 2022 and the guesthouse in 2023. Both are now open to visitors thanks to this restoration work which was done in 2019, after the abbey was selected as the Normandy “emblematic” monument in the 2019 French Heritage Lottery.
The guesthouse is home to the largest collection of glazed cobblestones in Normandy, as well as two exceptional 14th-century murals, now enhanced by new lighting. During restoration work, the oldest “Armoricaine” type frame in Normandy was also discovered.
